Self-Guided Walking Tour   This popular walking tour allows visitors and residents alike to explore a number of unique treasures in La Jolla’s historic central village. Approximately twenty blocks in length with an estimated walking time of an hour and thirty minutes, this self-guided tour with fifteen stops offers insight into the rich history, architecture and culture of La Jolla’s village, including walk-bys of some of structures dating to the 1890s and natural attractions for which this scenic seaside community has been long known. This detailed guide and map features directions to each stop, with archival images and extensive histories of the buildings and attractions featured.   The twenty-page booklet is available at the Society’s offices for $5.99 (discounted for members). Now also available at Warwick’s book store in La Jolla and the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla.   The La Jolla Walking Tour guidebook is­ also available online at the La Jolla Historical Society Store.

Carlsbad Music Festival

Sept. 21st – Sept. 23rd  The annual Carlsbad Music Festival takes place in the charming seaside Village of Carlsbad. The Festival has been praised by KPBS as “one of the area’s most innovative music showcases” and by the Los Angeles Times as “magnificently enlightening.” All festival events will take place in the Village of Carlsbad, within short walking distance of each other, the train, beach, restaurants and hotels. Directions Driving: To get to the village, take Interstate 5 to Carlsbad. Exit at Carlsbad Village Drive and turn west. Head right (North) on State Street and then turn left (West) onto Grand Avenue. Park at the Village Train Station on your right. All of the Village Music Walk and weekend venues are within walking distance of the Carlsbad Coaster Train Station near the railroad tracks. Train: The Carlsbad Village Station is a Coaster station (San Diego’s coastal commuter train). San Diego and points South: take the Coaster directly to the station. Los Angeles and points North: take the Amtrak or Metrolink to Oceanside Station and transfer either to a Coaster train, NCTD 101 bus, or take a cab 2.7 miles to Carlsbad Village Station. Bus:Take the 101, 321 or 325 to the Carlsbad Village Station. Biking: Same as driving but stay off the freeway! The PCH is a particularly scenic ride for coming from the North or South. Movies in the Park – “Cars 2″

Organized by the Escondido History Center, movies will be shown twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays in June, July and August.  This Weeks Film: Cars 2.  Activities start at 7:00 pm and the movie airs at dusk. Snacks available. Bring low back chairs or a blanket, flashlight and sweater (even on hot days, the park can get chilly at night.)  Where: Grape Day Park, 321 N. Broadway, Escondido, CA 92025  Upcoming Movies in the Park: August 11 – The Adventures of Tin Tin.  August 25th – Kung Fu Panda 2.  County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation is the sponsor of two movies in June.
